I’m a Shadow Systems owner, and if you’re unaware, this brand uses a proprietary optic cut with its own spacers and screws, which they combine to give you proper fitment for the specific optic footprint you’re trying to mount.
This is a Shadow Systems MR920, and I recently purchased the Vortex Defender ST Enclosed for it. Let me just tell you that the screws Shadow Systems provides do not work for this optic. There are three screw sizes: 1, 2, and 3. Size 3 is recommended for the DeltaPoint Pro footprint, which the Defender uses, and that’s the one I tried first. That screw is way too long and sticks out. I tried size 2 next, and the head flared out too much, which is what broke the glass as I was tightening it. At that point, I just wanted to test out the last set, which was size 1. This one seems to be the right length, but the head is still just a bit too wide and scratched up the lens, though it didn’t break it.
So yeah, don’t use the Shadow Systems provided screws if you are trying to run the Vortex Defender ST Enclosed. I’ve seen people on Reddit say that they use the FN-labeled screws that are provided by Vortex, but you’ll have to play with that for yourself.
I’ve initiated a warranty claim through Vortex, and we’ll see how that goes.
